“Access to education is a crucial precondition to educational impact, but what matters most thereafter is the quality of education.” - USAID
LAN Academy is an early-stage nonprofit based in Boston and dedicated to bringing world-class secondary education to students in the developing world. We partner with organizations worldwide to turn on the existing computer labs into offline digital tutoring labs using our open source software and hand-picked open educational resources in a way that is offline, scalable and accessible to the students around the world in a wide variety of circumstances.
Our model is a combination of insights from our team's 16+ combined years as non-traditional students, prior experience bringing open courseware internationally, and published educational research (like this article by Dr. Sugata Mitra). We are supported through individual donations, student volunteers, and the expertise of professors at Northeastern and Harvard University. Additional partners include IDEA, MIT Startlabs, Reweave, The African Indian Alliance, and Loyola Pre-University College of Mundgod in Karnataka, India.
